Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Spätlese, 2015
Wehelener Sonnenuhr provides a brilliant third iteration of Thomas' Spätlese this year, offering up impeccable refinement and elegant, long, beautifully ripe sun kissed fruit flavours. The minerality here is subtle, complex and woven into the very fine texture of the wine, the fruit initially demure, it really comes out of its shell on the long resonant finish. Less showy than the BJS, but no less wonderful.
critic reviews
Apple garlanded in heliotrope and lily-of-the-valley makes for a heady, head-turning nose that translates into a satisfyingly juicy and seductively liquid floral impression on a creamy palate. Like the corresponding Juffer-Sonnenuhr, this finishes at once soothingly and refreshingly, not to mention with impressive persistence, though for now at least it doesn’t reveal quite that wine’s sense of transparency to subtly stony nuances.
