Maximin Grünhauser Abtsberg, Riesling, Superior, 2019
A breezy wild ferment note blows off to reveal a little more sunshine than the GG, a touch of pollen, day lily and succulent yellow fruit. Bright, crystalline and beautifully balanced. One of the best superiors we’ve encountered. As ever it’s not bone dry which merely serves to amplifying the fruit notes, giving the whole a backlit quality as pithy grapefruit, and sun dappled slate rise up on the long and persistent finish. Just one fuder was produced in 2019.
critic reviews
The intensely yellow colored 2019 Maximin Grunhaus Abtsberg Riesling Superior is very clear and still reductive and flinty on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich, juicy, fruit-intense and even tropical-flavored Abtsberg with significant sweetness a long, tensioned, refreshingly mineral and salty finish. Very long and highly promising. Keep it for at least 7-10 years. Tasted as a sample in April 2020.
