Notes

In separating out the Frutau and Halgans bottlings, the Schoenlebers have committed to including only the very finest vines and parcels in their two GG bottlings (with the exception of their out of this world Auction bottling). Deeply mineral at first, almost subterranean, with flavours of earth, stones and sweet slate opening up to reveal bitter orange, spice, bergamot, really fine threaded minerals, powerful yet highly refined, with complex slate notes and an acidity beautifully wrapped up in stones and fine fruits. Incredibly long and even though this has undoubtedly high in acidity, you simply don't feel it because is so well covered with ripe fruit and these complex minerals. A towering yet transparent GG.

Notes
Crushed stone, hints of iodine, and alkaline, saline sea breeze signal already in the nose the mouthwatering and intriguing mineral complexity that emerges on a silken palate. But this bottling also boasts generously juicy ripe white peach and tingling, bright fresh lime that serve for memorable refreshment. The mouthwatering, salivary gland-milking, superbly-sustained finish suggests oyster liquor in its salinity, nuttiness and umami-richness.

Emrich Schönleber

Emrich Schönleber

A great Nahe estate that was started by Werner Schönleber in the 1960s with just two hectares. Today the estate comprises 14 hectares, mainly Riesling, on the slate and quartzite soils of the Halenberg and Frühlingsplatzchen vineyards. Intense vineyard work and spontaneous fermentation in old oak casks together with ageing in steel vat conspire to produce intense, long lived Nahe Riesling that combines floral, charming qualitites with intense minerality. For the last five years, this estate has been perfoming to is maximum, rivalling Germany’s very greatest producers.
