Barolo, San Rocco, 2000

justerini & brooks tasting note

A more muscular effort than the Bricco Fiasco from the Serralunga based San Rocco vineyard. The crunchy black fruits, vanilla and spicy oak notes are bolstered by a rich svelte tannic framework.

critic reviews

93/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

Azelia's 2000 Barolo San Rocco has held up quite well. Smoke, tar, licorice, leather and dark fruit are some of the aromas and flavors that meld together in this fresh, exquisitely layered Barolo. The San Rocco possesses gorgeous complexity and fine overall balance. Mint, flowers and licorice add the final layers of complexity.

The 2000 Barolo San Rocco has aged gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. Proprietor Luigi Scavino is one of the few producers who routinely turns out wines that are delicious upon release and that can also be cellared.
