La Villa, Langhe, 2007
A blend of 60% old vines Barbera from the Larigi vineyard and 40% Nebbiolo from the Barolo Arborina vineyard aged in 100% new oak barriques. This makes for a stunning marriage, the blueberry and salty Barbera character comes through initially however the Nebbiolo clearly lends some class, complexity and structure, it very much "completes" the wine. This exhibits ripe currant, dark berry, spice salt and mineral characteristics with binding but suave tannins. Impressive.
critic reviews
The 2007 Langhe La Villa (Barbera/Nebbiolo) is a seriously compelling and utterly delicious wine. The Nebbiolo complements the juicy Barbera fruit by adding a touch of verve, freshness and aromatic complexity that gives the wine an extra level of focus over the Larigi in this vintage. The 2007 La Villa is harmonious and impeccably balanced all the way through to the long finish. Simply put, this is a spellbinding wine from Altare.
