Barolo, Monvigliero, 2022
A limpid red-fruited wine in which you can feel the talc and white soils through crisper, quite prominent tannins. Plum skins, hay and spices bring complexity in this more tannic expression. The prized 0.8ha that the Scavinos own in this great site was bought at the same time as Bricco Ambrogio, in 2002. From two parcels planted in 1968 (0.6ha) and 2005 (0.2ha). First bottled as a single cru in 2007, their holdings form a pyramid shape from the mid-slope up to the tree at the summit.
critic reviews
The 2022 Barolo Monvigliero is a pretty powerful wine for this site, but it does offer good depth where many other examples are on the lighter side. Red-toned fruit, iron, cedar, mint, blood orange and scorched earth show a decidedly virile side of Monvigliero. Give this a year or two to soften.
