Barolo, Rocche Rivera, 2014
A fabulous a little known plot that is a continuation of the famous Rocche vineyard of Castiglione sitting above and next to Roagna’s Pira. The poor soils and east facing exposure make for a wine that favours elegance over power. Startlingly vivid, beautifully crystalline, red alpine berry fruit, gently scented, silky but with nerve and grip too, haunting, pure and stylish. Gorgeous.
critic reviews
The 2014 Barolo Rocche Rivera(from the Scarrone cru) packs a serious punch in its deceptively midweight frame. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, hard candy, wild flowers and mint make a strong first impression before the firm 2014 Nebbiolo tannins kick in. Today, the Rocche Rivera is a bit rough around the edges and a touch wild, but it is certainly not lacking in personality.
