Luigi Oddero
Barolo, Vigna Rionda, 2012
justerini & brooks tasting note
Sturdy and statuesque in structure but the tannic framework is hidden almost entirely by fleshy bramble, loganberry and plum flavours. The rich, earthy fruit is enlivened by a thick seam of salt and mineral elements. Mighty and profound. One of the great original Crus of Barolo. Situated in Serralunga, Luigi Oddero’s parcel is in the original part of the vineyard at the top of the hill where the soil is poor and stony, benefiting from a south/ south-east exposure. The wine is aged for three years in large used oak casks and two years in bottle.
