    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Paolo Scavino, Barolo, Carobric, 2013

Rocche di Castiglione is the dominant part of this blend and it shows with its high-toned fresh red fruit aromatics. Intense, crisp fruit, less oak spice notes than some of the other Scavino wines and more tight-knit red berry fruit. Bright, complex and long flavours. Tense tannic and concentrated but not at all thick or heavy. Brilliant, vivid and pure. A blend of three top Crus, Cannubi, Rocche and Bric del Fiasc, aged the same way as all of the other wines, for a year in barriques and a year in large oak ‘botti’.

The 2018 Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric is a blend of fruit from three different vineyards, Cannubi, Rocche di Castiglione and Bric del Fiasc. This 2018 is immediate and open on the nose with a combination of spice, green herbs and flowers. It has a lovely focus and drive on the palate with savory, silty textured tannins giving it an edge. There is an energetic quality to this wine. Wait one to two years and keep for up to 25.

The 2018 Barolo Carobric shows terrific energy and focus, naturally in the smaller-scaled style of the year. There’s terrific precision driving the bright red cherry, spice, mint, pipe tobacco and floral nuances. In 2018, the Carobric is a bit nervy, but the aromatics and balance wrap everything together nicely.
