Barolo, Sarmassa, 2010
Possibly the most seductive and complete Sarmassas that Voerzio have made. Broad, full-flavoured, dark and voluptuous, there is a really sensual, mouth-coating quality to this. Generous, gregarious, in short a real crowd-pleaser, this offers notes of bramble, cherry, aromatic spices with touches of blueberry and adequate balancing freshness. Sarmassa is on the same hill and has the same exposure to the sun as Cerequio but is just over the border in the Barolo commune as opposed to La Morra. Only 800 magnums of this are produced annually.
critic reviews
Seamless and gracious on the palate, the 2010 Barolo Sarmassa impresses for its silkiness and pure elegance. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint and cinnamon are some of the many notes that emerge from the glass. The 2010 is finessed, creamy and exceptionally polished from start to finish. The 2010 is one of the two Voerzio Barolos still aged exclusively in French oak (the other is the Torriglione) because of its small production. Both wines are also only bottled in magnums.
