Barolo, Sarmassa, 2018
justerini & brooks tasting note
Bottled exclusively in magnums, 2018 is the first vintage back in the fold after extensive replantings took place in 2014. A site which yields naturally small clusters, the young vines here were full of sugar, producing a wine of ripe red plums, currants, and hints of brioche. Explosive and intense but so much to love here, and all the more remarkable for a young vine cuvee. In the end, 2018 proved the ideal year to bottle as the vines had plenty of water and the summer was not too hot, allowing for slow, steady ripening. Aged for two years in barrique, just 860 magnums have been produced
