Vadio, Tinto, Bairrada, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Raspberry-scented with a touch of wild herb and smoky minerality on the nose, the Vadio red has a peppery, red cherry and floral note that skips along and draws comparison with something of the Alpine. Superbly fresh and cleansing with a light, attractive fruit profile – this is Baga at its most elegant and refined. Produced from 100% Baga planted to limestone and clay, it is fermented and aged in a variety of formats for two years before a further year in bottle before release.

critic reviews

90/100Mark Squires,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2018 Tinto is a Baga aged for 24 months in a mixture of used French (80%) and American barriques. It comes in at 12.8% alcohol. If you want to see the difference between a youngster and something with a little age, the contrast between this and the 2012 anniversary release in this report is a good one. The 2012 has certainly acquired more complexity, but this shows off more vigor, the acidity slicing through the fruit, segmenting it into layers. That doesn't mean it is harsh, though. In fact, it is polished and refined, even a little understated. It should age well and continue developing. They are both a lot of fun in their own ways, both emphasizing freshness.
