Grenache Blanc, 2022
Donovan laments that “we don’t have old Grenache Blanc in South Africa. The oldest Grenache Blanc I knew of was 42 years old, but it was pulled out before I could get my hands on it.” A variety that Donovan excels with, the 2022 is clean and stony with hints o lemon drizzle, lime and cool, freshly cut apples. An unoaked Grenache Blanc, bottled after six months to preserve freshness, raised in concrete eggs and a tiny amount of amphora.
critic reviews
Pure and crystalline in the glass, the 2022 Grenache Blanc offers a mineral-driven, citrus core with hints of spiced whitetea, petrichor and yellow apples. Medium-bodied, the palate displays succulent sea spray and elderflower flavors before bursting with energetic acidity over the food-friendly finish. It's incredibly delightful.
The 2022 Grenache Blanc is fermented in two concrete eggs and matured for eight months. It has an attractive bouquet with yellow fruit, patisserie, and touches of frangipane in the background. The palate is well-balanced with lime and yellow fruit on the entry, fine acidity and a harmonious, straightforward finish that lingers nicely in the mouth.
