Mature and Rare Germans: Auction Wines, Library Releases and Perfectly Aged Rieslings, all from our cellars

Today we are delighted to offer a spread of truly fine Rieslings from our cellars, all immediately available at the best prices in the market.

Famed for their longevity, complexity and startling freshness over many decades, wines from Germany’s breathtaking vineyards are typically bought up young and aged in private cellars, rarely coming to the market with maturity.

Made up of the great names in German wine: Egon Müller, Keller, JJ Prüm, Zilliken, Schönleber, Peter Lauer, Dönnhoff, Battenfeld-Spanier, Dr. Loosen and Willi Schaefer, the list spans from 1989-2020. With 36 magnificent wines to choose from, you will find the very best of the dry Riesling world (designated by the letters GG); spellbinding, auction Kabinetts; sumptuous Spätlesen; and even a handful of lusciously sweet, luxurious, impossible-to-find BA and TBAs. Formats range from handy half-bottles to show-stopping magnums.

Quantities in almost all instances are tiny, often down to a single case, accompanying some loose bottles, allowing customers to assemble the most spectacular mixed case, if desired.

As a point of reference, “Auction” wines typically represent the pinnacle of an estate’s production in that vintage. These are labelled with the term [VDP Auction Release] in the main wine description.

When they are gone, they are gone.

Amongst this list of treasures, we call out a few notable wines:

**Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Auslese, Zilliken, 2009, 6x75cl ** A wine that is hitting its stride now, all white chocolate, honey and salted citrus, with a hint of slate spice and smoke; a beautiful Auslese for immediate drinking.

Graacher Himmelreich, Riesling, TBA, JJ Prüm, 2013, 1x37.5cl [VDP Auction Release 2019] Likely the rarest wine we will offer this year, a lone half bottle bought at the prestigious Trier auction, just 24 half bottles were ever released by the estate. A wine of spine-tingling energy.

Westhofener Brunnenhauschen, Abts E Riesling, GG, Keller, 2015, 1x75cl (Non-OC) A great opportunity to try single bottles of Germany’s most acclaimed dry wine producer in a vintage often considered to be a turning point for the country’s best GGs.

Ayler Kupp, Riesling, Kabinett, #5, Weingut Peter Lauer, 2020, 6x75cl [VDP Auction Release 2021] A deft Kabinett blessed with deep, crackling slate finesse and fine, sharp citrus fruits. Routinely a standout Kabinett at the auction, well-priced, and a J&B staff favourite.
