critic reviews

92/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

The 2008 Saint-Pierre is medium to deep garnet-brick colored. It shoots out with expressive scents of dried cherries, mulberries, and prunes, plus hints of mossy tree bark, star anise, and leather. The medium-bodied palate is lively and laden with minerally accents, supported by soft tannins, finishing long and lifted.

The 2008 has soft berry fruits, cold ash, tobacco, smoky cigar notes, great balance and finesse. Melted tannins that are ready to drink, with chocolate and liqourice filling out the frame in the mid-palate, and gentle black pepper spice on the finish. This was the vintage where serious cellar improvements began, with the addition of small stainless steel vats to allow more plot by plot selection. 50% new oak.

Serious medium ruby. Very ripe aromas of cassis, minerals and licorice. Ripe and thick on entry, then concentrated but rather backward in the mid-palate, with a firm mineral spine and sound acids giving lift and shape to the fully ripe dark fruit and licorice flavors. This builds impressively on the back end, finishing with serious but ripe tannins that reach the front teeth. I'd lay this down for six or seven years.
