Pommard, Clos des Epenots, 1er Cru, 2018

justerini & brooks tasting note

Dark, deep and structured but juicy and fresh with it. Powerful but polished tannins grip the mouth-watering hedgerow, sloe and plum fruit. A wine of such density and vigour yet not short on class and poise either. One of the great Pommard Climats-producing wines of great finesse and longevity. The vines were planted between 1948 and 1978 and the soils here are well-drained.

93/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2018 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru has a clean, pure and well-defined bouquet with ebullient red berry fruit and fine mineralité (one of the few Côte de Beaunes in this tasting to exhibit that trait). The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut and fresh, quite saline with a beautifully proportioned, harmonious finish that lingers in the mouth. What a beautiful Pommard. Chapeau. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
