Côte Rôtie, La Viaillère, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Exquisitely pretty, small ripe strawberry fruit intertwined with velvety cashmere tannins that coat the palate. Open, engaging and fruit-driven flavours, ripe touches of griotte and kirsch, that not only seduce at first approach but also prove to be remarkably persistent. Now that Clusel-Roch's vineyards are 32-years-old they are starting to produce outstanding wine and as such Clusel Roch decided, as of the 2009 vintage, to bottle it up as a separate cuvée. The bottom of the slope still goes into the main Cote Rotie blend. Aged for around 16 months in a maximum of 15% new oak.

critic reviews

94-95/100Josh Raynolds,Vinous

Aromas of fresh black/blue fruits, pungent flowers, olive and allspice on the incisive nose. Weighty yet lively black currant, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors show fine delineation and take on a smoky mineral nuance on the back half. Steadily building tannins shape an extremely long, penetrating finish that echoes the floral and mineral notes. The balance of power and finesse here is pretty impressive.
