Cornas, Reynard, 2009

justerini & brooks tasting note

An old vine cuvée that is a blend of wine mainly from the Reynard vineyard as well as some of the Domaine’s other, older parcels. Even deeper than the Chaillot, meaty, thick-set and inky, deep flavours of dried flowers, minerals stones, black cherries, cassis and bramble with warming sloe and kirsch notes to the finish. Profound and jaw-droppingly intense, to be approached a good 7-10 years after the vintage.

Inky violet color. A heady, seductively perfumed bouquet evokes blackberry, cassis and licorice, with violet and Asian spice topnotes. Broad, palate-staining black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors show outstanding concentration and intense minerality. Clings impressively on the endless finish, which leaves mineral-accented blackberry and candied floral notes behind. I underestimated this remarkable wine last year.
