The top cru of the lesser-known commune of Roddi, a very windy terroir exposed south east and planted at 150 metres above sea level. Making very bright, breezy red fruited Barolos that mix soft plum and berry with a fresh, clear cut transparency. Aged for one year in large oak ‘botti’ and one year in barriques with a maximum of 10 percent new wood.

The 2017 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bricco Ambrogia has a combination of rich, ripe red fruits like cherries and green herbs followed by spice and crushed rose petal notes. The wine is very attractive, with mid-weight concentration and lots of fine, dry-edged tannins with a texture like crushed chalk. It is a little austere today and not quite so expressive in the middle as other Scavino wines. Wait one to two years and drink for 15-20.

From the village of Roddi, the Paolo Scavino 2017 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio shows a sweet quality of fruit, with candied cherry and summer peach. Those fruity tones are framed by elegant notes of smoke, tar and hazelnut cream. This wine shows a loosely knit texture with soft tannic integration and a very accessible style that sets this bottle up for near and medium-term drinking.

The 2017 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is laced with succulent black cherry, mocha, licorice, dark spice and lavender. The Bricco Ambrogio is usually a bit juicier, while the 2017 is decidedly on the lighter side.
