Barbaresco, Gallina, 2020

Gallina presents a heady, slender perfume centred around strawberries and kirsch, with inflections of mint and dried herbs. Succulent, mid-weight, with the suave drinkability of many 2020s, this is a more gracious, open follow-up to the more structured 2019. The Busso part of Gallina is considered a good one, as it is well-exposed, facing Ovello to the west rather than full south, so it benefits from breezes coming off the Tanaro. Produced from the oldest vines of the estate, the wine sees an extra year in bottle before release.
