Barbaresco, San Stunet
Piero Busso

Barbaresco, San Stunet, 2017

justerini & brooks tasting note

The San Stunet exhibits more complexity, displaying some darker forest fruit, bramble and blackberries mixed with lifted red fruit and cooler cracked clay and white pepper notes. Good vibrancy and intensity, with a density of ripe fruit that covers its edgier tannins. Full flavoured with spice and mineral elements too. From the commune of Treiso a south east facing vineyard at 400m altitude, one of the highest parts of Barbaresco. The soils are mostly limestone with some blue Marl. The site is late ripening, usually picked ten days after the others. Typically, the wine is livelier and more linear in structure than Busso’s other Barbarescos. Aged for two years in 25hl slavonian oak casks.

critic reviews

94/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2017 Barbaresco San Stunet offers gorgeous breadth and resonance. Dark cherry, spice, new leather, menthol, licorice and rose petal open effortlessly in a resonant Barbaresco endowed with notable depth and clout. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2017 is powerful yet also impeccably balanced. In fact, it is one of the more complete wines I have tasted from Busso in some time.

This wine draws its fruit from the village of Treiso, and Piero Busso has done a fine job across all his new releases. The 2017 Piero Busso 2017 Barbaresco San Stunet shows a lot of pretty fruit and some signs of the hot vintage, with underlined aromas of ripe cherry and redcurrant. That bouquet of red fruit moves quickly along and transitions to earthy tones, crushed stone and slate.
