Château Clerc Milon Rothschild, 5ème Cru Classé, Pauillac, 2008
Clerc Milon 2008 is a real treasure. Situated between Mouton and Lafite on the crests of Milon and Mousset, it is little wonder that this estate, under the directorship of the Mouton wine-making team, is making sublime, sexy wines. 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Really expressive, high-toned, perfumed cherry fruit with hints of pencil shavings, cut flowers and roasted coffee beans. A lovely flavour profile of blueberries and blackcurrants are wrapped in very svelte, stylish tannins. A beautifully poised, structured wine.
critic reviews
The 2008 Clerc-Milon has an intense pencil lead nose that is just quintessential Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, dense black fruit, closing in towards the finish where I would have just liked more complexity and precision to show through. Give this another year or two in bottle. (Tasted at BI Wine & Spirit’s annual 10-Year On tasting.)
