Château Grand Puy Lacoste, 5ème Cru Classé, Pauillac, 2017
Xavier Borie's Grand Puy Lacoste has a reputation for elegance, purity and refined Pauillac class. It has remained true to its terroir and produces a classically styled, unforced, serene wines. There are few wines made in Bordeaux that feel so authentic. 2017 certainly doesn't disappoint, this is wonderfully perfumed with a bouquet of violets, minty cabernet fruit, eucalyptus and some savoury minerals. The palate is pure and intense, packed with crisp, intense cassis interspersed with spice and bright redcurrants. Everything is in perfect harmony; there's such precision and poise, enough density, clear fruit and then some exquisitely detailed tannins coated in noble fruits and salts. One is left with a real sense of tension and a gorgeous saline, mouth-watering character. Splendid! 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot.
