Château Roc de Cambes, Cotes de Bourg, 2013
Roc de Cambes 2013 is less voluptuous and more reserved than the Domaine de Cambes. It is a more serious and more complex wine, but it is rather less exuberant and opulent. Notes of fine herbs, forest floor, kirsch and cranberries. This is very serious and compact with layers of suave mouth coating red berry fruit and griotte. Beautifully constructed with a fine tannic structure.
critic reviews
Roc de Cambes 2013 is medium garnet in color, with a touch of brick. It features quite an herbal nose before revealing notes of dried figs, leather, and rusty nails. The light to medium-bodied palate is thin and tart, with a chewy texture and a rustic finish.
Bright ruby-red. Pungent, high-toned aromas of red berries, graphite and licorice, with a suggestion of menthol. Then cool and bright in the mouth, with herbal elements complementing the delicately flinty red berry flavors. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins and a minty edge. We needed to be very careful with the use of new oak this year, owner Francois Mitjavile told me, adding that he used just 10%. The redcurrant note, while less common in this wine, is consistent with the colder, fresher year.
