Puligny Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, 2023
A fabulous nose of crushed stones and anise and confit lemon, while on the palate there’s richness, depth and density, but also great control with a very fine intensity of fruit. One of the top vineyards in Puligny, next to Les Caillerets, from a high-up parcel where the soil is poor and stony but well exposed to the sun, situated in the northernmost corner of this great vineyard, right next to the Leflaive vines, above Clos de la Garenne. Fermentation and élevage take place in 350-litre barrels, with no bâtonnage, for 12 months before six months in stainless steel.
critic reviews
The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has more vigor on the nose compared to the Les Referts, more mineral-driven with yellow flowers and a touch of lemon verbena. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a lovely caressing texture and hints of chamomile infusing the orchard fruit toward the finish. The acidity keeps this tight and focused—a beautifully sculpted Puligny.
