Marsannay, Les Longeroies, 2021
One of the later wines in the cellar to finish malo this is of course a little more youthful than the Vaudenelles but nevertheless there’s an impressive brightness to it. A wonderful clarity of fruit, with complex touches of briar and salt alongside fine berry and hedgerow fruit. A fine, firm tannic spine combined with a wonderful energy. Great persistence too. Those with the patience to lay this down for a few years will be amply rewarded. A first rate Marsannay vineyard planted on poor soil, situated mid slope, that is one of the prime candidates for elevation to Premier Cru status, a process Marsannay vignerons have got well under way. Fermented with 30% whole bunches and aged in predominantly used oak barrels.
critic reviews
Including an appreciable percentage of vines planted in the 1920s, Clair's 2021 Marsannay les Longeroies was late going through its malolactic fermentation, meaning it was among the more backward wines in the cellar when I visited. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, dark wild berries and coniferous forest floor, it's medium-bodied, supple and seamless, with lively acids and fine, chalky tannins.
The 2021 Marsannay Les Longeroies, which underwent a late malo, has a very well defined bouquet with brambly red fruit and light tertiary scents. The palate is beautifully defined with wonderful tension, saline and refined with tart red fruit on the finish. Superb.
