Savigny Lès Beaune, La Dominode, 1er Cru, 2021
Lovely depth of fruit here with complex savoury notes and plenty of salty refreshment. This is a fantastic Dominode, with a luminous intensity with really impressive length and persistence but no sense of force. Where once this cuvée offered solid power, this is now impressively airien and transparent. Quite simply this cuvée is getting finer and finer. Just 20%-30% whole bunch in 2021 as the ancient vines produce small clusters with slightly more elevated pHs than the Clair’s younger plots. Arthur and Edouard have been adapting their approach to this cuvée over the last couple of vintages, by lowering the whole bunch percentages and extracting more gently. A legendary Savigny parcel of extremely old vines many of which were planted back in 1902.
critic reviews
From a parcel planted in 1902, the 2021 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode is performing superbly, exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries, petals, orange rind, licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, this charming, layered wine exudes a sense of effortlessness.
The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru has a vivacious, rather minty bouquet that leaps from the glass. Not complex, yet vigorous. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more density than the Les Jarrons with just a hint of charcuterie on the finish. Good potential.
