Savigny Lès Beaune, La Dominode, 1er Cru, 2022
The legendary Dominode plot has really produced the goods in 2022, blending dark and red fruits with notes of salt and earth in what must be the most refined and complete example we’ve tasted here. The texture and structure, which always demanded time, now have a level of sophistication to them that put this up with some of the best wines of the cellar. Whole bunch usage has been dropped to 20% for this cuvee, to maintain acidity in what is invariably quite a high pH vineyard – and the result is a resounding success. Another hidden gem in the range. Don’t miss!

The 2022 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode was also still quite primary and unevolved when I tasted it from barrel, unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, berries, licorice and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a chassis of sweet, powdery tannin, it's built for the cellar.
The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru was taken directly from demi-muids, though it is raised in regular barrels, too. The nose has wonderful delineation and purity: redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, elegant and poised with judicious oak use. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and grip. The 20% whole bunches is less than others due to the natural pH, a wise decision as the finish maintains tension. A gem.
