Beaune, Grèves, 1er Cru, 2020
Dark, deep velvet fruit. Dense black cherry flavours dominate the mid palate; full, round and solid to begin with, this unwinds with air and develops some complex sweet, woody spice and orange peel notes. Aged in 25% new oak and fermented with 60% whole bunches. From 65 year old vines planted on soils with more clay than the Domaine's Beaune Sizies giving a denser wine. Fermented with a third whole bunches and aged in 20% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2020 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a slightly confit-like bouquet with raspberry and bergamot. Wilted rose petals come through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red fruit, gentle grip, hints of black pepper and allspice with a structured, slightly earthy finish, indicating some whole bunches. Not bad, though not long-term. Just a bit smudged compared to Bouchard's "Baby Jesus". Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
