Domaine de Montille
Corton Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2020
justerini & brooks tasting note
So much more grounded and powerful than the estate's other whites. Broad-shouldered, brooding golden buttery fruits swamp the palate instantly. This is powerful and complex but not immediately expressive. Grand in scale, this will need time to unfurl and express itself fully. From behind Pougets, a mid-slope, south, south-east facing vineyard of 35 years old, aged in a mixture of small barriques and larger demi-muid barrels to minimise oak influence.

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a very heavy and what feels like a fixed reduction on the nose. Again, the palate is reductive, rendering it rather generic. It is difficult to see how this will extricate itself from that strangle of sulfur. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
