Corton Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2021
A cleansing savoury Corton Charlemagne imbued with smoky nutty aromas, a hint of flinty reduction and saline and umami notes on the palate. There’s enough flesh to give this a certain gravitas, and real persistence. In 2021 de Montille team took a little more lees than normal to barrel to help nourish the wine. Very good. From behind Pougets, a mid-slope, south, south-east facing vineyard of 35 years old, aged in a mixture of small barriques and larger demi-muid barrels to minimise oak influence.
critic reviews
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has some reduction on the nose, although transferring between glasses alleviates some of that, revealing a slightly petrolly character. The palate is fresh on the entry but sags in the middle and lacks the same personality or sense of terroir expression as its peers. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
