Nuits St Georges, Les St Georges, 1er Cru, 2009
The great vineyard of Nuits, many people believe it should be elevated to Grand Cru status. Tasting this directly after Gouges’ 2009 Vaucrains, it was difficult to see how it could be any better, sure enough though Les St. Georges raised the bar. More sensual, less serious and severe than the Vaucrains but even longer and more intense; glorious round and voluptuous flavours of damson, berry and cherry liqueur, a haunting floral red fruit finish. Sheer seduction.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges reveals gorgeous delineation to balance its rich, intense fruit. From a structural standpoint it is the most inward and reticent of the 2009s I tasted from bottle.
