Echézeaux, Grand Cru, 2020
Though a little closed, there is no doubting that this has great style and sophistication. On first approach this offers up pretty, delicate red fruits. These are soon gripped by seriously tense edgy, fresh tannins; finishing on echoing, lifted red and dark cherry, raspberry and cherry blossom fruit. Sheer magic, intense but floating. Spellbinding Echezeaux from two prime plots, les Rouges and Cruots.
critic reviews
The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a relatively straightforward bouquet that lacks the complexity of its peers. It's too reductive and worsens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, here only slightly reduced, solid with lightly spiced red fruit, though the finish feels a bit blunt, possibly due to the SO2 and the oak. Give this a couple more years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
