Vosne Romanée, Les Suchots, 1er Cru, 2021
Sumptuous yet lifted. Hugely alluring red fruits with delicate spice for complexity. This is so attractive and seductive , beautiful sweetness at the core but also some grip and direction too. All sorts of pleasure to be had here. Seductive, succulent joy. A top-flight Premier Cru where the clay-dominated soils give typically smooth voluptuous Vosne Romanées.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru perhaps has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Grivot’s Premier Crus: graphite-infused red fruit, touches of forest floor, very precise and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins. There is unerring symmetry here and whilst it may miss a bit of substance on the finish, this may well be addressed by the time it finishes its élevage. Superb.
