Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2023
Dark, spicy and virile with gripping vertical tannins and notes of mulberry, pepper and wild plum. There’s freshness here but also plenty of deep fruit, rich minerality and spice. Impressive drive and depth here, a wine of torque and lean muscle. The first of their vineyards to be harvested in ’23. Always entirely destemmed, The domaine has one hectare of vines, spread over two lieu-dits in the north-western corner of the vineyard, “Plante l’Abbé” and “Quartier de Marei Haut”, in the sector called “des Papes” – owing to the fact that the produce from this sector was traditionally reserved for the Popes of Avignon.
critic reviews
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense bouquet with black cherry, raspberry and violet scents that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and very pure, with saturated tannins, impressive depth and plenty of blue fruit on the finish that makes it seem like a Bonnes-Mares. Superb.
