Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2019
Whilst offering that classic Clos de Vougeot breadth and corpulence, there is still a clear sense of proportion here. The fullsome, dark plum, bramble and plum liqueur fruit is delivered seamlessly on the palate thanks to a sensual, velvety texture. Suave and all-consuming. Impressive. Drouhin-Laroze's parcel of Clos de Vougeot is particularly well situated and it shows in the wine. Their 1HA of vines is spread over two lieux dits in the northwestern corner of the vineyard, "Plante l'Abbé” and "Quartier de Marei Haut”, in the sector called "des Papes" - owing to the factor the produce from this sector was reserved for the Popes of Avignon. De-stalked and aged in 80% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was completely destemmed this year. It has a vibrant bouquet of black cherries, raspberry coulis and freshly picked roses. There is a purity here that I admire. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and quite corpulent yet retaining definition on the finish, and leaving cracked black pepper on the aftertaste. This could turn out to be one of Drouhin-Laroze's best 2019s.
