Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2022
This has a complex weave of fruit; salty, earthy, wild hedgerow fruit, crème de mure, touches of kirsch, cherry stones and herb. A certain velvet character to the palate and tannins. Long persistent finish. Mouthfilling, ample, full of matière. Plenty of Grand Cru dimension here. The domaine has 1HA of vines, spread over two lieu-dits in the NorthWestern corner of the vineyard, “Plante l’Abbé” and “Quartier de Marei Haut”, in the sector called “des Papes” – owing to the fact that the produce from this sector was traditionally reserved for the Popes of Avignon. Fully destemmed and aged in 80% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is pretty and harmonious, offering up notes of sweet raspberries and plums mingled with rose petals, orange zest and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with sweet tannins and a saline finish, it was entirely destemmed.
The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a refined bouquet that blossoms in the glass with very fine delineation and purity of fruit. The medium-bodied palate with fine tannins, well-judged acidity, and crisp fruit shows more brightness on the finish than other cuvées. This is one of Drouhin-Laroze's best wines in 2022.
