Puligny-Montrachet, Les Garennes, 1er Cru, 2019
One of the deeper, riper Garennes Sauzet has made, there is depth and richness to the salinity typical of this cuvee. Crushed rocks and salts are underlayed by a creamy, golden fruit character. Ripe but nicely weighted and retaining good freshness. Aged in 10% new oak barrels. One of the estate’s and Puligny's highest vineyards planted on poor stony soils.
critic reviews
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne exhibits aromas of pear, white flowers, fresh peach, mint and praline. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's rich and textural, with succulent acids and a gourmand, generous profile. As usual, this is a cuvee produced with purchased grapes from a parcel farmed and harvested by the Sauzet team.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru, from a single plot at the top of the slope close to Hameau de Blagny, has an austere, granitic bouquet that demands coaxing from the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine edginess on the entry, concentrated with good density, notes of tangy marmalade and spices coming through on the expressive finish. This is a lovely La Garenne that should age with style.
