Romanée St Vivant, Grand Cru, 2009

Romanée-St.-Vivant is often svelte, scented and rich in fruit, and Frank Follin makes a gloriously pretty and refined example in this style. The 2009 stops you in your tracks; pure velvet, ripe flavours of mulberry, wild strawberry and sloe, very fruity yet complex and layered, this is already very expressive but you can tell there is still lots more to come from this; as rich and heady as it is, it maintains wonderful focus and poise.
