Nuits St Georges, Les Vaucrains, 1er Cru, 2013
Closed, tightly-wound, brooding muscular and mineral. A complex and layered wine, an array of crispy, crunchy fruit; forest berry and hedgrow, with earthier notes of undergrowth and stone. Powerful but very well proportioned. One of the great vineyards of Nuits that often rivals Les St.-Georges, albeit in a more brooding and muscular style.
critic reviews
Deep, bright red. Brooding aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate and menthol hint at superripeness. Less fruity and floral than the Saint-Georges and Cailles but fatter, sweeter and larger-scaled, boastig considerable power to the raspberry, earth and chocolate flavors. Saline, dense, classically dry wine with rich tannins that saturate the entire palate. This appears to need several more months of élevage.
