Sylvain Cathiard
Vosne-Romanée, 2014
justerini & brooks tasting note
A little darker and more mysterious than the upfront Bourgogne, showing grest refinement, balance and purity. Notes of cocoa, pencil lead, mineral damson and bramble. Ripe and layered with a steely freshness to cut through the fat. Very fine. Aged in 50% new oak barrels originating from five parcels of vines aged between 30 and 60 years old.

Bright medium red. Aromatic, almost candied scents of black cherry, raspberry, spices and flowers. Juicy, savory and dry, showing excellent energy to its black raspberry fruit. Not a sweet or thick style but firm and precise. If this excellent village wine closes up like Cathiard's 2012s have, it will require more patience than my projected drinking window suggests.
