    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

A wonderful, very pretty but also quite confident pale strawberry and salmon colour - beautiful really and unmistakably a Rosé. The nose is complex with wild red fruits, chamomile and mint, dots of spice and espelette pepper, cumin rose and zesty lemon notes behind. Rich and mouth filling, with a light phenolic grip that softens to reveal a creamy, supple finish. This is the sort of vinous, complex rosé that really ought to be drunk from a bigger glass. Going back this balances a crisp mousse with the rich concentration of 2012 making for a truly vinous glass of wine. I love the sense of presence, the way the flavours are pure and complex, on a structure that is textured and dense yet bright and fresh too. A top effort, very grown up, rich and concentrated yet dry and fresh too. This bottle would be a great friend to pigeon or duck.

The 2012 Extra-Brut Rosé Cuvée 1522 is done in a perfumed, gracious style that is more about aromatics and ethereal nuance. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, chalk and white pepper are some of the nuances that grace this delicate, understated Rosé. This is a decidedly light style, especially for the year. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: April, 2021.

Disgorged in March 2021 with 4.5 grams per liter dosage, Philipponnat's 2012 Extra-Brut Rose Premier Cru 1522 offers up deep aromas of red berries, spices, bitter orange, plums and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, deep and vinous, it's layered and concentrated, with bright girdling acids and delicate structuring phenolics. Long and penetrating, it's as fine a rendition of this cuvee as I can remember tasting.
