Arborina, Langhe, 2011
A Nebbiolo from the Arborina vineyard aged for 18 months in new oak barriques and released a year earlier than Barolo. Headily scented and aromatic, suave velvety flavours caress the palate, expressive and sweetly-perfumed fruit notes of forest berry, victoria plum and rose petal mixed with touches of cinnamon. Gripping, structured but highly alluring.
critic reviews
Altare's 2011 Langhe Arborina (Nebbiolo) is gorgeous in this vintage. Freshly cut flowers, spices, mint and licorice jump from the glass in a wonderfully nuanced, detailed wine. Nebbiolo seems to have handled the unique challenges of the vintage better than Barbera. With a little bit of time in the glass the 2011 opens up beautifully. Sweet floral and spiced notes flow through to the striking, layered finish.
