Barolo, Brunate, 2009

justerini & brooks tasting note

Deep and savoury, long and powerful black fruit, stone and sweet spice characteristics interwoven with gripping tannins. Brooding and multi-layered, this will need more time in bottle than the other crus but promises a huge amount. One of THE great historic crus of the whole of Barolo. Situated in La Morra at 400 metres above sea level, facing east and south-east, this is one of the highest vineyards in the area that produces powerful, complex and very complete wines. Only 200 cases are made.

Good full medium red. Complex, expressive nose offers redcurrant, licorice, brown spices, wild herbs and dried flowers. Large-scaled, deep and powerful for Brunate but with terrific definition and enticing minty lift to the red berry and spice flavors. Beautifully balanced Barolo with strong tannic structure and resounding length and grip. I love the combination of power and sweetness on display here.
