Brunello di Montalcino, Fornace, 2007
Fornace is a single plot in the Castelnuovo d'abate zone. The debut Fornace is a really intense, broad, full-blooded Brunello crammed to the rafters with ripe, exuberant fruit, notes of damson plum, kirsch and crème de mure but there is more than just fruit -layers of spice and savoury characteristics of liquorice, cinnamon, star anise, stone and herb, complement the rich, ripe fruit and make for a very complex, powerful wine. No more than 275 cases were made
critic reviews
Good deep, bright red. Ripe aromas of currant, dark plum, loam, tobacco and menthol. Lush and fat on entry, then large-scaled and plush in the mouth, with a gamey, saline quality to the sweet fruit flavors. Slightly warm and on the soft, chunky side. Finishes with a broad dusting of tannins and good lingering sweetness.
