Brunello di Montalcino, Fornace, 2012
The aromas are bolder and more forthcoming than the those of the Vecchie Vigne. Engaging, generous and rich flavours of spiced autumn fruits, strawberry, plum cinnamon and vanilla pod with a wild, savoury touch of smoked meat and leather. Sweet-fruited, hearty and bursting with flavour, this is a rewarding example of your classic Brunello. Fornace is a single plot in the higher part of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate zone. Aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
critic reviews
This is a special vineyard selection from Le Ragnaie. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Fornace is one of three new releases from this long-standing winery from this beautiful corner of southern Tuscany. Dark color saturation and rich concentration bring on aromas of black cherry, cassis, grilled herb and savory spice. This wine offers a complete portrait of Sangiovese and Montalcino in a warm vintage. It is robust and hearty, yet it also shows elegant texture and bright acidity on the close.
Deep red. Mushrooms, fresh herbs and sweet spices complicate black cherry and plum aromas and flavors. Big, rich and savory, but with mouth-tingling freshness that gives this a refined mouthgfeel and a lovely sense of balance.
