Brunello Di Montalcino, 2007
A blend of wine from parcels north and south of Montalcino, the average of vines is 45 years old. A fresh, poised and slightly brooding Brunello, certainly not decadent. A measured, classic and intense wine with notes of herb, teal leaf, cassis, damson and cherry, gripped by tight-grained tannins, finishing on warmer more expansive fruit notes of sloe and fruit liqueur. The wine is aged in 30-40% new oak. After 13 months of ageing, rigorous cellar tastings take place and the decision for what will be the final Brunello blends are made. The Brunellos then complete a further 24 months of barriques ageing followed by 18 months in bottle.
critic reviews
Pacenti's flagship bottling, the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino PS, is striking. Sweet roses, red berries, cinnamon and dried flowers all mesh together in the glass. Sweet, layered and totally impeccable, Pacenti's 2007 PS is one of the standouts of the year. It boasts stunning overall balance and class to burn. Silky tannins support the stunning, utterly gracious finish.
