Cabernet Sauvignon, Philip Togni Vineyard, 2018
Tobacco, leafy aromatics, crushed graphite and gravelly notes emerge from the youthful, taut Togni cabernet 2018. The fruit comes as a whisper after the savoury, mineral inflected notes. The palate has ripe, steely tannins that grip the palate, fine white stone aromas that frame savoury forest notes and focussed dark berry fruit. Poised, taut, seamless, yet powerful and full of tension, this is seriously long, haunting Cabernet that needs plenty of time to show all of its cards. Traditional, old school, yet very precise and pure with it. Very smart indeed. Produced from the Togni’s estate vineyard, high up on Spring Mountain, planted to a Margaux inspired blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
