Burgundy 2023: Hidden Gems

Burgundy is a complex region comprised of myriad tiny plots, most of which are owned by multiple vignerons. Two growers might make vastly different wines from the same plot, even if their vines are adjacent to each other. Lesser villages can contain extraordinary plots to rival, and outshine wines made from much lesser sites in more illustrious appellations. Certain sites excel in warm years, others when it’s wetter. Some ripen early, others make growers wait. What’s always true is that in any given year, certain wines seem to rise above their station and offer that little bit extra, the shine of brilliance that makes the buyer in us want to pour the wine without anyone seeing what the label is. These are what constitute our Hidden Gems.
