Ried Roterd, Blaufranksich, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Ried Roterd, a sub-plot on the Spitzerberg, has a bit more humidity in the soil producing wines with a creamier texture. Not so dramatic as some of the other wines, such as Liebkind, but the Blaufrankisch grown here is incredibly round and soft, making incredibly delicious, more approachable wines. The original vineyard of Dorli’s grandmother, Dorli has gradually expanded her holdings plot by plot to achieve a total of 2.5 HA (of 4 in total) including new plantings. Once the new plantings come on stream we may see the Ried Roterd overtake Liebkind and Ried Spitzerberg in terms of production.

critic reviews

93/100Stephan Reinhardt,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

From Dorli Muhr's very first vineyard (an inheritance from her grandmother which she replanted in 1996), the 2018 Blaufrankisch Prellenkirchen Ried Roterd opens with an intense and spicy, terroir-driven bouquet with notes of sour cherries, blackthorn, underwood and stems. Very pure, authentic, fine and elegant. On the palate, this is a silky-textured, coolish, intense and concentrated, sustainable red with refreshing grip and serious but delicate structure. This is an excellent Baufrankisch from the Spitzerberg. Organic production. Bottled and tasted in June 2020.
